At the age of twenty-seven, he
left Vick Chemical and set off for Europe as the Executive Vice President
of MTS International. MTS International placed contract personnel (leased
people) on highly-specialized jobs in Europe, Africa, the Middle East and
Asia. These jobs included supplying manpower for the North Sea oil rigs,
the design of the Dussault Mirage jet fighter, and security for the then
newly-discovered Nigerian oil fields. It was from these adventures abroad
that Mr. Smitten based his first novels-fiction based on fact.
From Europe, Richard Smitten moved to Key West, where he owned a tourist
attraction and a bar on the waterfront. He started to write in Key West,
writing in the day, managing his bar at night.

"FALSE
WITNESS" Released on August, 2001. False
Witness is fiction based on true events. In some cases the names have been
changed to protect the guilty. In South Florida anything is possible. It
is the end of the criminal funnel, where sooner or later all the major
crimes and criminals wind up, basking in the sun, in the Southern end of
the great state of Florida. The allure of easy money, endless sunshine,
long white-sand beaches that snake the coast for miles, bikini clad women
and windsurfing tan men.
In this story the FAA and the DEA raid a stolen aircraft chop-shop. They
are surprised to learn it is a rogue U.S. Customs operation. They are also
unaware that the illegal secret operation is sanctioned from the highest
levels of U.S. political power. One man decides to defy them and that's
when the action starts.
The story includes a new subject, the theft and re-selling of small
aircraft, which in reality is a major business. The story takes us from
the secret sweaty dens of iniquity in South Florida, to the mysterious
Great Swamp-The Everglades, to a hot nightclub in Little Havana, and
finally to the island of Cuba, where we learn that Fidel and his brother
Raul are up to their ears in all forms of crime and contraband.
Cuba is the new official 'Criminal Free Zone', a high tech free-trade
illegal global marketplace, designed to accommodate the new breed of
global criminal. A tropical home for world wide desperadoes, international
criminals, who need a global 'Free Trade Zone' an open marketplace
facility for their criminal enterprises. This includes: storage and repair
for stolen aircraft, arms running, drug warehouses, the sale of stolen
advanced computer contraband and modern hotels and pleasure palaces for
the new global criminals to meet and conspire, with no threat from the
long arm of law enforcement.
One man is thrust into this world through no fault of his own. He is
crossed and double-crossed by the U.S. Government until he has to take
matters into his own hands, and that's where the action spirals, as he
falls deeper and deeper into a complicated web of deceit.
This book is the basis for the headlines yet to come as the world is about
to witness its first glimpse at how "global gangsters" and
crooked men and women of great international political power really work.

"JESSE
LIVERMORE: WORLDS GREATEST STOCK TRADER" is
being published by Trader's Press and came in January of 1999. Jesse
Livermore is a Wall Street legend. Part biography, part novel, part
technical-the book reveals his secrets. The book is coming out in trade
paperback format in October-published by John Wiley and Sons.
Jesse Livermore is considered by many of today's top Wall Street traders
as the greatest trader who ever lived. For the first time, in one book:
his trading secrets, techniques and stock market methods are revealed.
Livermore broke new ground in trading the market. His timing techniques,
money management systems, and high-momentum approach to trading in stocks
and commodities was revolutionary, and remains valid today. His personal
life reads like a high powered novel with: an attempted murder, a house
invasion robbery, great parties, and two suicides.
HISTORY
His first novel was published in 1987 -
"TWICE KILLED" - published
by Avon books, is a thriller/love story. Loosely based on the adventures
of famous international swindler Robert Vesco, the book traces his
activities across continents. It was later updated and republished under
the title "CAPITAL CRIMES"
in Britain and seven other countries. The book was then released for a
third time in 1994 in the U.S. through SPI/Hearst under the name "BANK
OF DEATH".
His next two books were true-crime books - "THE
MAN WHO MADE IT SNOW" - published by Simon and Schuster,
co-authored with Robin Moore. This book details the true story of Max
Mermelstein, the only American to ever sit with the hierarchy of the
Colombian cartel. What Meyer Lansky was to the Mob, Max Mermelstein was to
the Cocaine cartel. The paperback version of this book was released under
the title: "INSIDE THE COCAINE CARTEL".
"THE GODMOTHER" -- Published
by Pocketbooks, a division of Simon and Schuster. The true story of the
notorious Griselda Blanco, on her DEA dossier was written, La Madrina -
the Godmother), the most heinous female criminal of the century. She and
her crime family were pursued by one lone DEA agent for ten years. He
became obsessed with her and the chase, until finally, single-handedly,
against enormous odds, he caught her and pulled her five hundred million
dollar empire tumbling down.
R.L. Smitten's next book was about counterfeiting, using high-tech
equipment. "LEGAL TENDER" -
published internationally in eleven countries, is a sweeping mainstream
novel with a strong love story. The saga unravels a worldwide
counterfeiting ring. The leading nations of the world must take action to
avoid the potential disaster of monetary markets oozing with newly printed
perfect counterfeit currency. Money that has been sold to the major
criminal enterprises of the world in exchange for gold.
R.L. Smitten's next book dealt with a notorious Florida sex-scandal that
became a nationwide story. "KATHY - A CASE
OF NYMPHOMANIA" - A Broward County deputy sheriff was
acting as a pimp for his wife. He would hide in the closet filming her
encounters. Among those he filmed was a Fort Lauderdale city councilman, a
deacon of his church, a man who was leading the campaign to shut down the
strip-clubs and porno shops in Fort Lauderdale. Kathy, the beautiful
defendant, was defended by Ellis Rubin, Florida's most controversial
lawyer. |
